The Hair industry – Future Talent after Covid-19

May 23, 2020

Over the last few weeks, the hair industry has been in the media more than ever before. A vast majority has been hugely positive. With the reporters emphasising the skill it takes to be a professional hairdresser and barber.

We now need to take action, recruiting the school leavers inspired to be part of our industry ……If we don’t today it will be a massive missed opportunity.

Now is our time!

Student’s finished their last term suddenly and whilst many may be going back in the next few weeks, many won’t be. Masses missed out on vital careers advice. We need to embrace this change and connect online as so many are doing homeschooling and e-learning.

There are still students that have huge decisions to make regarding their career. My aim is to ensure that students, parents and teachers are able to have the Choose Hair booklets as a resource. Ensuring we are as an industry not missing out on future talent.

Colleges, universities and other industries have taken this opportunity to maximise their intake offering advice online and “open days”.

Choose Hair booklets are available to download HERE. We have 2,744 members in the Choose Hair Facebook group. If each one of us made contact with our local school. Just think how much difference this could make! It’s a great resource for teachers to email directly to students. I’ve spoken to many that said they would welcome this vital information.

We also have a website www.choosehair.co.uk. Please let me know your thought and any improvements you feel we could make. Don’t forget you can upload your apprentice roles for free on this website.

For many, I believe hairdressers and barbers are now seen as a necessity, not a luxury.

After we have received all the feedback I will post our action plan next week.

I hope you find the booklets informative and a talking point when engaging with future talent, parents and teachers.

Stay safe and #ChooseHair
