Earlier this week I posted a short video on social media. My concern for people uploading their CV’s with a huge amount of their personal data for the world to see. This included home addresses, date of births, telephone numbers, marital status and even in some cases National Insurance numbers too.

In the wrong hands this data can lead to awful consequences. You have just shared with the public a map of your life.

The main worry is that criminals will take your identity and use it along with other information to build a new profile, apply for new products in your name, which will go on to your records and ruin your credit history. If you take sensible precautions, the risks drop drastically.

So, when SHOULD you put your address in your CV?

When applying for a job direct with an employer, recruitment agency or job board. Applying directly to the company you know exactly where your CV is being sent. If you register with a recruitment agency or job board, they will use your location (postcode) to select suitable candidates for roles.

Here is a couple of examples of how you can include your location without disclosing your full address.
