CHOOSE HAIR

May 23, 2020

Get your action-pants on! It’s National Careers Week from 4-9 March.
You should be asking now – if you haven’t already! -for a date to visit your local secondary school and promote hairdressing as a fantastic career. Whether you’re recently qualified, a senior member of the team or the salon owner, it’s in all our interests to promote the profession. Go in pairs, go alone, just drop into the school reception and enquire about opportunities for you to meet the kids and promo hairdressing. Courage! You’re people-people so sharing your passion will be easy.NB. we urge you to call in in person rather than phone – so much nicer!

SHOW: COULD HAIRDRESSING BE THE RIGHT CAREER FOR YOU?

If the students are not sure about what a career in hairdressing might be like… Why not try working through a flow chart with them? You can download the Choose Hair flow chart: HERE

SHOW: A LESSON PLAN… ABOUT APPRENTICESHIPS

Choose Hair has also created a helpful lesson plan that you can share with teachers and schools that you may know in your local area. It explains what an apprenticeship is, and encourages students to think about the career of hairdressing and what a hairdresser does on a day-to-day basis. You can download the Choose Hair lesson plan HERE – so be proud, take it into your local school during Careers Week and shout!

Intrigued by the launch of a new site that will help hairdressing become a more attractive proposition to school leavers. Yep! The launch of choosehair.co.uk specifically profiles to youngsters, parents and school-leavers what the benefits are of an apprenticeship in hairdressing. AND you can advertise your apprenticeship spaces on there for free. The brainchild of Emma Bavin, who launched the Supporting Hairdressing’s Future initiative recently, we urge you to get involved. National Careers Week starts on 5 March. Emma will help you to arrange a visit to your local school to shout out about hairdressing. Manufacturers and salons must get behind this.
